Born and raised in a small town in northern Czech Republic, Zuzana pursued her studies at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, specializing in public health and European public affairs. She gained her first professional experience in diplomacy and international institutions, focusing on global health and international development programs within the UN system in Geneva and Cambodia. She also previously served as the Czech United Nations youth delegate, representing young Czechs at various UN forums worldwide.

At AAU, Zuzana works as a study abroad specialist, assisting semester study abroad students and supporting AAU’s summer schools and custom programs. She is passionate about international education, often reflecting on how studying abroad transformed her life.

In her free time, Zuzana enjoys practicing yoga, exploring nature, cuddling her two cats, or volunteering with the Czech NGO Summer Discover Academy, where she teaches a course titled Women’s Health and Rights.

Originally from Slovakia, Beáta has lived in Prague for more than twenty years. Her professional career has been spent in international education, starting as an assistant at International Study ĂŰĚŇtv plc in Prague and continuing as the Erasmus and exchange coordinator of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University. She also has experience in the education department of a major Prague hospital, taking care of interns and international students.

At AAU, Beáta is responsible for the admission of all our study abroad students, starting with the application, course registration, answering enquiries, organizing extra-curricular activities, etc. In addition, she is involved in managing our summer school and custom programs.

Katerina has experience from both Czech universities and American universities. During her studies in Prague, she moved to the USA to learn English and gain life experiences. After studying in cities such a Cincinnati and Chicago, she worked for an American corporation. Over the years she called Hawaii and Australia home, but her favorite place will forever be Alaska, where she enjoyed a work-away program.

When she’s not helping students, she is teaching yoga, tries out new cafes in Prague and chasing after her children.

Cyril Simsa is originally from London, though he has been living in Prague much longer than is really sensible. As Head of the International Office at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University he was one of the administrators who helped establish the Erasmus program at Charles University from 1998 onwards, and later also administered the Master’s degree in International Economic and Political Studies, the first accredited English-language degree program at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

He has been at AAU since 2011, where he is responsible for managing international staff and student exchanges (both through Erasmus+ and through direct university agreements). In his previous life, he worked as an editor on the centennial facsimile of the Domesday Book published by Alecto Historical Editions, and at the Natural History Museum in London.

Richard Olehla is a university lecturer, literary journalist and translator. Born in Prague, he graduated from the English Department, Charles University in Prague. He holds a PhD. in American literature and has taught a variety of courses in modern American literature and culture at Charles University, the Josef Skvorecky Literary Academy, and the Akcent College. He has been a recipient of the Camoes scholarship (2000) and the James W. Fulbright scholarship (2005). His professional interest focuses on post 9/11 literature and the relationship between ideology and writing.

His interests include reading, writing about modern American fiction, e-book business development and sports. Apart from working at AAU, he also contributes to Czech literary journals and leads an e-book publishing project at the Municipal Library in Prague.

Born in the USA to Slovak parents, Natalie has lived in Prague for 23 years with her husband and children. Prior to joining AAU, Natalie was the Manager of Admissions at the International School of Prague and has previously worked as a corporate paralegal and event specialist. Natalie has a degree in communications and Economics from the University of Pittsburgh.

At AAU, Natalie is responsible for helping inbound and outbound exchange students. She is also the executive assistant to the President. Outside of work Natalie enjoys cooking, traveling, wine tasting, and spending time with her family.

Marie earned her master’s degree from Masaryk University, where she focused on finance. She has worked and lived across the globe, serving in different roles and industries and working with several languages.

After a number of years managing a small NGO in various countries of former Yugoslavia, Marie fell in love with the region. Her multifarious career has seen her work for a governmental agency where she was responsible for foreign direct investment support, as an industrial developer, and in the field of international corporations.

Marie manages the Study Abroad Office and is responsible for the creative, contractual, and financial aspects of the university’s study abroad programs. She also handles custom program management, having inherited that responsibility from her previous role at AAU.

Marie enjoys the international aspect of her position and especially relishes traveling with groups to parts of the country off the beaten path, in pursuit of academic enlightenment.
